There is a theory called the "good genes" theory that can perhaps explain some of this.  Some animals, generally males, will purposefully participate in dangerous or risky behavior such as exposing themselves to predators in order to attract a mate.  The perspective mate may subconsciously think that type of behavior is a sign of strength. If he is willing to put himself in danger, he must have "good genes."

Applying this to human males there are a lot of similarities. I once had a professor who often referred to it as the "Hey everyone . . . watch this. . ." phenomenon. This of course is what young males say just before doing something incredibly risky.

Some females may be attracted to it because they feel these risky behaviors are a sign of strength.

Opposites really do attract. There is the rush one gets from danger and just like looking at a bad car wreck- we can't help but look. Looking is the first step and if the opportunity arises the actions could follow. A fire is pretty to look at but if you fall into it then it will burn you. Bad boys are usually more intersting and girls mature faster than boys so those "interesting" boys seem to get thier attention more.

Once a good girl gets over her infatuation she realizes that bad boys have nothing to offer them except jail visits and they move on to more meaningful realtionships-hopefully. Depending on the good girl of course...if she has a good brain or not.
