If someone tried to commit suicide, then denies it, should the family deny it also or try to get them to admit it? - Psychology Questions

My sister tried to kill herself 2 and a half years ago by taking 20-30 sleeping pills.  Her first words to her husband when she awoke were "I guess I did not take enough."

Her action was two days after I spent time with her at a family wedding...where she ended up drunk and face down in her plate at the reception.  We shared a hotel room that night and the next morning she cried hard to me that she wished her two daughters (then aged 20 and 35) would move out of her house.  Two days later the daughters were in a fight and my sister went into her bedrooom and took the pills.

No one in the family is talking to me be cause I am calling it a suicide attempt. and they are all denying that it was.  She was undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer aat the time and says it was the drugs that caused the depression.  This may be true...but she still did try to kill herself!  I understand that my youngest neice (now 22) has tried to hurt herslf as well.

To my mind, this is unhealthy denial because they are all too ashamed to admit the truth.  As I see it, this denial is causing so much damage .  But now, I don't have a family.   Am I supposed to pretend she did not try to kill herself too?  Sadly the cancer has metastized and my sister will be losing her life in a few years anyway.
