Skinner designed a wonderful means of conducting therapy on animals and I myself used that idea to develop electronic adaptive equipment for multiply disabled people, although not in a box. I cannot claim to have had the thought originally, since I found earlier research that showed that people used a similar idea to study people's selection of stimulation. Zuromski had also developed active stimulation programming in Rhode Island and there were devices that you could buy that were made in Arizona.
